          Class Descriptions

All classes begin and end in yoga's relaxation pose called Shavasana. You'll be comfortably supported with blanket bolsters and guided through an awareness of your body. A very beneficial and healing breathing practice is also taught during the first Shavasana of every class.

          Private Yoga Instruction

          Basic Yoga Class

A BASIC class is designed to introduce you to the basic poses and principles of Svaroopa® yoga. You'll learn the sequence of poses designed to create "core opening". In a BASIC class you will be provided with easy directions, explanations, and clear demonstrations when needed. You are always welcome to ask questions. This a great class if you are new to Svaroopa
® yoga or if you would like to learn more details about each posture.

Lesson plans for BASIC classes are based on themes that emphasize the primary principles of Svaroopa® yoga. They include such themes as; Daily Practice, Lower Spinal Release, Spinal Flexibility, and Abdominals.

          Gentle Yoga Class
A GENTLE class is a BASIC class turned down a notch. Designed for those recovering from injuries, illnesses, or who just want to take it slow and easy. It is also a good place for beginners to start. Appropriate for pregnant women although some poses will need to be modified for pregnancy

          Continuing Yoga Class
          A CONTINUING class builds on
the poses and principles that are learned in a BASIC class including the foundational poses of Svaroopa® yoga and "core opening". Additional poses, (eg. backbends, standing, balance, classical and mild to moderate inversions) are built into the framework of a BASIC class. Variations to the foundational poses are also introduced. It's best to start with a Basic or Gentle class before trying a Continuing Class even if you have taken other types of yoga before.

Deeper Yoga Class (Dates & times TBA)
This class will give you deeper inner openings on all levels of your being. It includes variations and longer holds of familiar poses. Deeper is designed for experienced Svaroopa® yoga students who have been taking classes for a year, have a home practice and know how to recognize and deal with relapse. This class is not appropriate for beginners.

          New Beginnings (coming January  2011)
A series of three or four Svaroopa® yoga classes intended to introduce new students to basic Svaroopa® yoga poses and prop set-up. The series of classes is discounted to encourage you to try this wonderfully healing and transforming style of yoga. Dates and times for the series vary throughout the year.

          Pregnancy  Yoga Class
          (not currently scheduled)
This class is for students in their second and third trimester unless you were practicing Svaroopa® yoga before you became pregnant.*

Svaroopa® yoga is ideally suited to pregnancy. Releasing tension in your lower spine and pelvis will reduce pain and discomfort during your pregnancy, ease delivery and speed your recovery. Your circulation will be improved and you’ll feel better all over. Our easy breathing practice increases the oxygen and prana flow to both you and your baby and students have reported that it was incredibly helpful during their labor.

          * If you are in your first trimester and have never done Svaroopa® yoga, you may attend the first 20 minutes of the class for free but you may not stay for the rest of class. There is a transition in the class that allows you to leave discreetly without disturbing the other students.

          Meditation (Dates TBA)
Meditation is proven to be good for your emotional well being as well as your physical health.

Recent articles in the NY Times, Newsweek and Time, citing current studies, extol the many benefits of Meditation.

          • when to meditate
          • how to prepare
          • 3 meditation techniques
